Curtiss-Wright fiber-optic I/O PMC and XMC modules combine the power of a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA and four full duplex front panel fiber-optic channels supporting speeds of between 1 and 3.125Gbps per port.
The XMC-FPGA05F XMC/PMC module, equipped with a Xilinx Virtex-5 SX95T FPGA, addresses data processing and I/O in one module. It is available in a choice of PMC only, XMC only or combined PMC/XMC formats. This module features 4x fiber-optic I/O ports to handle demanding processing applications in embedded systems, particularly those that support communication over long distances and/or in electromagnetically noisy environments. A range of environmental requirements are addressed by the XMC-FPGA05F FPGA XMC/PMC including commercial, air-cooled rugged and conduction-cooled.
To limit data bottlenecks, the FPGA is closely coupled to PCI Express, PCI, front panel I/O and P16/P14 digital I/O. A wide range of tasks are supported by the XMC-FPGA05F FPGA PMC/XMC – including sensor I/O, data recording and linking systems in real-time. In addition, the FPGA may be used to implement data encryption, custom protocols or a network processor. The module’s four banks of DDR2 SDRAM help drive data processing or buffering.
The Xilinx Virtex-5 SX95T FPGA of the XMC-FPGA05F serves as a user programmable FPGA resource and supports high performance signal processing as it provides a high ratio of DSP blocks to standard logic blocks. Curtiss-Wright’s FusionXF development kit includes software, HDL and utilities complete with examples for using the XMC-FPGA05F FPGA XMC / PMC.
