Recorders in aerospace applications typically store data on solid state drives. These generally fall into two categories, removable or internal, and have been manufactured to withstand harsher environmental conditions than would be encountered for consumer grade electronics. Removable memory devices are typically used in quick access recorders and multi-role recorders which allow personnel to remove the storage device for data download at an analysis station and insert a new one. Data stored on recorders with internal storage can be accessed using proprietary or standard communications interfaces. Encryption of data is typical in sensitive operations where there is a security risk if data is intercepted. All of our encryption equipment is therefore designed to accommodate the needs of the user and meet applicable standards.

Storage formats and media are optimized to meet these needs along with recorder size, capacity, logging speed, and data acquisition considerations. Storage media includes CompactFlash, solid state disks and PCMCIA drives. Encryption of storage devices is available on a limited number of devices. Many rugged aircraft recorders are designed for multiple purposes and support a range of interfaces such as avionics buses, analog/digital sources and audio/video. They are supported by software that facilitates seamless setup, management, playback and analysis. In addition, some multi-role recorders provide flexibility by way of interchangeable modules that allow creation of customized recording solutions with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products.
